At my art show

I avoid full abstraction but rather prefer to build on a narrative. Narratives which change and evolve as the visual story on the canvas reveals itself. Layers painted over layers, attacks and retreats, questions sometimes without answers. Books, music, theatre, history and life all providing inspiration, allowing a work to be what it tells me it wants to be. The work must be free to be what it is within its own universe. On its own terms. They are not mirrors but exist for their own sake, in their time. They are not pamphlets. All of their soul, chaos and seduction, the intent is to look inside at its defining moment. The Story that is written. The viewer, now, perceives and reads from their own life. Between the two – a new language

PAST SHOWS

  • Solo gallery show  The Art of Lon Parker. October 01-31 2019, first level gallery at the cSpace Marda Loop in Calgary.
  • In 2016 I presented a multi-media project based on the life of fictional artist Alexander Graf, incorporating the experimental short film TRENCH(screened at the EMMEDIA Particle and Wave Festival in 2012. https://vimeo.com/53232604), the short story TRENCH-Diary of a German Soldier and a gallery exhibition of several paintings by Mr. Parker under the pseudonym of Alexander Graf. At the EMMEDIA screening room I performed an SRO live performance, Galerie Graf:DADA  an absurd, Dada inspired multi-media statement of H. Graf’s life, as it meandered through the historical reality of Zurich and Dada, post WWI Europe, the artistic world of New York City 1920-1951, the Abstract Expressionists and the subtle nuances of the famous and infamous artists Graf associated with during the development of two of the 20th centuries most important artistic genres. Paintings were sold through silent auction. The publication TRENCH-Diary of a German Soldier was included with the price of a full admission ticket
